Reviews of Notes of a Native Son Essay - 1238 Words
Reviews of Notes of a Native Son Notes of a Native Son, a widely acclaimed and celebrated book by James Baldwin was subjected to many reviews upon its first publication. There were many opposing views between reviewers but almost all came to the conclusion that Baldwinââ¬â¢s use of words was extremely eloquent and intelligent. Specifically an article titled ââ¬Å"Rage unto Orderâ⬠by Dachine Rainer was very adamant about Baldwinââ¬â¢s genius as a writer but hardly did anything to explain or exemplify that fact. Another review written by Langston Hughes reflects upon how Baldwin clings to the issue of racial discrimination on Negroes and that if he let go of that fact it would prove him to be a greater writer. In the third article the author tries toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Why ââ¬Å"Equal in Parisâ⬠should be mentioned as the strongest is not explained. ââ¬Å"Many Thousands Goneâ⬠was described as being weak because Baldwin ââ¬Å"psychologically repudiates his blackness to so alarming an extent that the piece reads like a literary schizophrenia.â⬠That however, doesnââ¬â¢t raise much of an explanation or give any detail on the cause for such a statement. One of the most predominant themes in the article mentioned by the author pertains to Baldwin being an exceptional writer. She says, ââ¬Å"His virtues are so great that one can make light of Mr. Baldwinââ¬â¢s weaknessesâ⬠(Commonweal 384). The author even goes so far as to say he is the most perceptive Negro writing today and the most eloquent, surpassing even Ralph Ellison and Richard Wright. It is understood Baldwinââ¬â¢s writing skills are great and that he is a Negro but there is never really any point made or any examples given throughout. In all there were one analyses and one comment made upon a particular essay so one might ask themselves of this article, ââ¬Å"What is your point?â⬠Hughesââ¬â¢ review opens with expectations of a fabulous artist mentioning untouchables like William Shakespeare, Beethoven, and Rembrandt. Following the passage, the review compares James Baldwinââ¬â¢s ability to write with the writings of these masters as a way to almost humble the efforts of Baldwin as if to not glorify him. Hughes then counters by saying that the quality of Jamesââ¬â¢ writingShow MoreRelatedThe American Dream By Edgar Allan Poe1476 Words à |à 6 Pagesthoughts, then; the second section following mostly his aunt s, then the third is his father s. Designing A Network Essay Example For Students
Designing A Network Essay I. STATEMENT BACKGROUND The college of Business (COB) server is now being used to support deliver to theComputer Information System (CIS) department. The CIS professors would be using the serverfor various operations. Assignments, e-mail, and other types of information would be easier forthe students to access. Network users are able to share files, printers and other resources; sendelectronic messages and run programs on other computers. However, certain important issuesneed to be addressed and concentrated on. In order to begin the process of setting up the COBserver, the total numbers of users (faculty and students) must be determined. Some othersignificant factors to be approached are: the required software applications needed on thenetwork, an efficient and appropriate directory structure and effective security structure. Indesigning the directory structure, the major focus must be on accessibility. The number ofundergraduate CIS courses that the server will be used for is be! tween 15 and 17. For the users to be ensured that their information is not at risk, we will createan effective security structure. In composing the appropriate security structure there must becertain access rights assigned to the users. An important technical detail in setting up a server isthe amount of money that will need to be allocated for the restructuring of the system. For thesystem to function properly, the amount of hardware/ software will need to be determined. II. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS The COB server will primarily be used by CIS professors and CIS students. Theapproximate number of professors in the CIS department is between five and seven and theapproximate number of CIS majors is between 100 and 120. As computer technology continuesto grow, the number of CIS majors is vastly increasing. If we see a considerable rise inComputer Information Systems majors the department will have to expand its faculty members. The CIS professors will be using the server to disburse their syllabi, distribute specificassignments and send e-mail to their students. The layout, design and complexity of each classwill determine how much the professor may be using the server. The first class a CIS major usually takes at Western is CIS 251. Management InformationSystems (CIS 251). This class offers students a basis for management information systems inbusiness organizations. In putting the COB server to use and getting the student ready forhands-on knowledge of computer-based information systems, CIS 251 focuses on analysis, development, design, implementation, and evaluation. Other tasks that are covered in this classare computer applications ins spreadsheets, word processors, and database systems. Information systems affect both business people and people who live in society. The first programming class CIS majors take is CIS 256. This CIS course will be verybeneficial for the server. Business Computer Programming (CIS 256) introduces the student toan application of programming principle in business. Detailed assignments involve flowcharting, coding, documentation, and testing. This course provides the student with a background ofcomputer architecture and data representation. This class account will require the BASICprogramming language that will be used as well as the compiler. The CIS elective, CIS 301, emphasizes maximum hands-on experience withmicrocomputers and software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databasemanagers, and graphic systems. Microcomputer Applications (CIS 301), is an important coursefor students not majoring in Computer Information Systems, but would like to familiarizethemselves with the personal computer. This account will contain Microsoft Office and e-mailcapabilities. An important class that becomes useful for the server is the CIS 358 course. The professorcan send applications, reports, programs and other data to the server where the student cantransfer to a disk or their VAX account. Applications Development II (CIS 358) is a study ofthe state of art tools and techniques for developing complex business applications; dataorganization, on-line processing, software engineering, and software maintenance. .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .postImageUrl , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:hover , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:visited , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:active { border:0!important; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:active , .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9b65281f7e15a2ac546ce7331fe36b8b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Sangers Of Teen Drug Use Essay This CIS classis an extension to CIS 258. Social Media HIPAA Essay Example
Social Media HIPAA Essay Social Media HAIFA Jacqueline Ford Healthcare Compliance Increasing privacy violations is more evident than ever. Usage of Social Media to network between friends, colleagues, and family is at an all-time high. Cellophanes or smartness are used not only to communicate socially, but also professionally. More innovative are cellophanes and portable tablets with high megalith cameras built-in, to instantly share a real-time event(s). For example: a loved one delivering a baby; a witness to an accident; injuries and/or wounds, Just to name a few. This is occurring daily not only with civilians, but healthcare workers; especially those who witness graphic or invasive procedures not normally seen to the average Joe. Unfortunately, some healthcare workers have no medical conscious; and for those who disclose patient information online can find themselves in violation of patient privacy laws like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, also known as HAIFA. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Media HIPAA specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Social Media HIPAA specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Social Media HIPAA specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer If caught, this can result in not only getting disciplined or fired, but being subject to fines of up to $250,000 and even a prison sentence. Another potential active consequence is an investigation and discipline by the professionals state board. But that threat hasnt stopped some medical professionals from posting confidential patient information online without permission. Some recent examples of social networking HAIFA breeches include these violations in Healthcare: A nurse who posted a patients picture and chart on his Faceable page because he thought it was funny and since it was only Faceable, there was no real harm in it A doctor who treated a patient over Twitter Emergency room personnel who posted pictures on the Internet of a man being rated for fatal knife wounds A doctor who asked a patient on a date after seeing her profile on a dating website A Rhode Island doctor was fired from the hospital and reprimanded by the Medical Board after she posted on her Faceable page about a long day at work. She never referred to the patients name but gave out enough details about the injuries to allow others to guess who it was. Although these are extreme examples of social networking gone wrong, even seemingly innocuous behaviors like writing about work on a blob, befriending a patient n a social networking site or taking a photo with a cellophane can lead to HAIFA Phoenix, on December 19, 2007; Dry. Adam Hansen, chief resident of general surgery at Mayo Clinic Hospital, admitted that he took a picture of a patients penis prior to surgery. Strip club owner Sean Dubious has a tattoo on the top of his penis that reads: Hot Rod. Hansen had admitted to Dubious that he took the picture with his cell phone while the patient was unconscious being prepped for gallbladder surgery. One of the primary purposes of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is to make it an actual federal offense for anybody to release any information about any patient without their written consent. Yet violations of HAIFA are only misdemeanors. Hansen is presently practicing as a Thoracic Surgeon at United Hospital Center in West Virginia. In order to address the growing problem of HAIFA violations by medical professionals, a company that develops mobile solutions is creating technology that will monitor social media sites to find HAIFA violations and evaluate the severity of the privacy breeches, which will help a medical facility take appropriate action. Some medical schools are also doing their part to help solve the problem by giving future doctors tips on how to conduct themselves professionally online, as well as examples of people in the profession who have made serious mistakes on social networking sites. According to a one professional In the current health care environment, we do not need to look any further than our nightly news program or daily paper to understand that health care costs have risen precipitously over the past decade and are on a similar path for the coming years unless we do something drastic to reverse he trend (p. 33). Mr.. Sullivan statement does bring a vital point, what drastic measures can be taken to keep patient privacy, private? With the ease and magnitude of the misuse of our social network technology; only a clear, well-defined and widely disseminated social networking policy that emphasizes compliance responsibilities during both work and non-work hours, and in using both company computer systems and any other devices with access to the Internet, is an employers most effective weapon against liability for employee misuse of social networking sites. From a reflections standpoint, operating social media to enhance your health organization can be accomplished in a compliant way.

People Dont Appreciate The United States ââ¬â Creative Writing Essay Free Online Research Papers People Dont Appreciate The United States Creative Writing Essay Being a United States citizen is a great privilege to all that live here because of all the rights you have. Someone is not in control of you. You have the freedom of speech and the right to vote when youââ¬â¢re eighteen. And other countries donââ¬â¢t have that to offer. Some people donââ¬â¢t appreciate what the United States is offering to them and they take it for granted and think that it sucks and they think the other countries are better. They have no clue about a lot of things and weââ¬â¢re one of the best countries in the world. And I think that our country is great, I just donââ¬â¢t like where I live in this country, I mean its ok, but there nothing to do, but its fine, I guess. The United States is the best county I think and I hope people have more respect for our country and donââ¬â¢t think that we got it bad. We donââ¬â¢t have it bad, its there reason that itââ¬â¢s bad for them, not the United States, all they had to do is to go get a job. We have it easy compared to the people in Africa and South America, they donââ¬â¢t have a chance to get a job and if they do they would work for almost nothing I just hope they realize what we have and donââ¬â¢t take it for granted, and be proud to be a United States citizen. Compare and Contrast Research Paper - Essay Example This art shows the philosophers gathered together learning from each other and sharing ideas. The great figures in history lived at different times. However, The School of Athens illustrates the great scholars under one roof. Two great thinkers, Aristotle and Plato, are conspicuous in the painting. The duo has played crucial role in shaping the Western thinking. In addition, their philosophical differences have been incorporated into Christianity (Kleinbub 52). However, Aristotle holds his hand down, a clear indication that humanity can only subscribe to the reality that can be seen or experienced by tough as well as sight. This, in essence, is the exact reality that Plato had dismissed. Aristotle holds his famous book (Aristotleââ¬â¢s Ethics) essentially emphasized elements of justice, relationship, government of the human world, and friendship, as well as reasons for the study (Kleinbub 52). Pythagoras is to the lower left of the painting, The School of Athens. Pythagoras held t o the belief that the world as well as the movement of the stars and other planets operated in a manner that was reflective of distinct mathematical laws (Kleinbub 52). Incidentally, the mathematical laws had close connection to the ideas of cosmic and musical harmony. Apotheosis of Homer was a remarkable work by Ingres (1827). ... However, Homer appears to rein above all the great ancient artists and writers in history. Ingres intended to depict the painting to be the sum of aesthetic rules though it barely lived to the expectation. Incidentally, the creation of this painting was a result of the artist (Ingres) combining more than 100 small drawings for the various characters (Kleiner & Helen 782). Each of the assorted characters made the drawing more precise and detailed in equal measure. Apparently, Ingress conducted an extensive study of the paintings and other artistic works of assorted artists. For instance, he studied the paintings of Raphael, Apelles, and Poussin, the playwright, as well as other important figures, including the Roman and Greek gods. Jean- Stylistic Analysis The School of Athens (by Raphael) provides high renaissance perspective with regard philosophers, scientists, mathematicians who held divergent views, conducted researches, and held different perceptions about the universe and other phenomena (Strinati 28). In the art, Plato is seen holding his book called The Timaeus. Plato (on the left) points up which is a clear implication of his philosophy about everything in the universe being merely a shadow of the higher, eternal reality that is not only unchanging but also eternal. These include things such as beauty and goodness (Strinati 28). In essence, he holds to the belief that the other worldly reality is in fact the ultimate reality, and the seat of beauty, justice, wisdom, and truth. However, Aristotle holds his hand down, a clear indication that humanity can only subscribe to the reality that can be seen or experienced by tough as well as sight. Auguste-Dominique Ingres first exhibited the Apotheosis of Homer in 1827 in the yearly Salon. This art

Art could also be used to add aesthetic values to our infrastructure, automobiles and clothing among others. Art can attract foreigners from different corners of the world to a specific destination, for instance, a majority of Europeans and other parts of the developed nations travel to Africa just to have a real feel of the African art. They enjoy the African dances, songs, sculptures and paintings among other elements of Art. This discourse is about the unique architecture of the Egyptianââ¬â¢s pyramids as a form of visual art. The Egyptianââ¬â¢s pyramids are some of the most unique and valuable art in Africa. It is divided into various categories depending on the origin (Smyth 2013). The beauty of the pyramids is not only attributed to the structures but other features included in them. For instance, Egyptianââ¬â¢s pyramids have relief sculptures as well as produced wall paintings among other refreshing features. Some of the sculptures in the pyramids include the famous obelisks and the sphinx statues among others (Arnold, 2010). Talking of the Egyptianââ¬â¢s pyramids without the mention of the ancient Egypt history is regarded as incomplete. The ancient Egypt was characterized by desert and dry grassland climates. This could explain why the native Egyptians had to employ some desert features like the sand dunes to construct their structures. They could place huge obstacles in the open fields to trap dust and this marked the foundation or the beginning of their unique constructions. Mesopotamia was one of the ancient towns and it developed due to its two rivers namely Tigris and Euphrates. Itââ¬â¢s believed that the two rivers contributed huge to the civilization in the region, as it supported trade and transport from foreigners from neighbouring cities l ike China and India. The two rivers also provided for the construction of the Egyptianââ¬â¢s ancient structures. The two rivers also provided water for agriculture among other domestic and commercial uses. The ancient Egypt was governed by the elite class called the monarch. It comprised by of the top ranked priests among other officials. The middle class was left to the merchants, tradesmen and clergy among others. The final low class was the slaves who were forced by their masters to toil in the agricultural fields and construction labourers. They were Israelites who were once welcomed in the country, but the changes in the monarchy changed their general hospitality in the country. Egyptianââ¬â¢s pyramids with the sculpture of god of the sun Sun baked bricks were the main construction material in the ancient Egypt. The bricks were moulded from the rich Nile River clay then left to dry in the natural sun. However, structure for the top monarch leaders were constructed from th e stones. The country is rich in limestone except the agricultural rich Mesopotamia. The unique exterior walls are carefully to either slope gently or stand vertical. The ancient architecture arrived at the flat roofs due the fact that the country was basically a desert; hence no major rain was expected. The roofs are structurally supported by well constructed beams and columns, both made from clay. The ancient buildings have the native

Discuss some of the key similarities and differences between orthodox Essay
Discuss some of the key similarities and differences between orthodox and naturopathic medicine. briefly evaluate circumstances when the use of one may be more - Essay Example According to Larson (2007, p. 1), alternative medicine represents any form of healing therapy outside the borders of orthodox medicine which uses pharmaceuticals, radiation, chemotherapy, and surgical procedures in its practice of healing the sick. Alternative medicine includes all forms of therapy from acupuncture to Zen Buddhism as potential pathways to health. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine states that there four types of alternative medical systems which include Chinese medicine, ayurvedic medicine, naturopathy, and homeopathy. What separates naturopathy from the other types of alternative medicine is not only its beginnings, but also the basis on which health, disease and treatment is seen. While the other forms of alternative medicine have their roots in shamanism and spirituality, the beginnings of naturopathy can be traced back to the beginnings of orthodox medicine. Hippocrates, generally considered as the "Father of Medicine", is also considered to be a physician that practiced what was similar to naturopathic medicine. ... Although this does not correspond entirely to the principles of naturopathy, as it can be observed, the view that the health and disease is based in the balance of natural elements is the basis of most naturopathic beliefs. In order for the differences and similarities between orthodox and naturopathic medicine to be better evident, the six basic principles of naturopathic medicine should be reviewed. The first concept is the healing power of nature, which refers to connecting with nature, or the life force, which is constant, although ever changing. Connecting with nature involves getting outside yourself, getting beyond whatever health limitations are concerning you. Further, the healing power of nature involves a connection with this life force, taking some action, either through exercise or any physical activity, that connects us with life. Naturopathy involves taking an active role in your own health, becoming your own health maintenance organization, as opposed to approach of traditional medicine of prescription drugs. The second concept of naturopathy, identification and treatment of the cause of disease, focuses on eliminating the problem that is resulting in the illness. One common example can be given, as high blood pressure, and its treatment through conventional medicine. Diuretics are the most common treatment, however, if the root cause is obesity and sedentary lifestyle, then the use of diuretics but failure to address those contributing factors will have the end result of treating symptoms but not correcting the basic problem. Modern medicine, however, also is beginning to focus more on eliminating social and other underlying problems that cause diseases. One such example is Sweden's
